Filesoft Academy — Course 4 Lesson 3
Created by Plato · Filesoft

Requires FileMaker Pro 26 desktop on macOS, sold separately. Admin with blank password. Local single-window teaching example, not a production security or multi-user concurrency template. Keep an untouched original and work in a copy. Do not enable hosting.

Starting file: latest saved closed owner Lesson 2 example with projects and unassigned tasks; build the chooser using the lesson.

Choose Task Project Links from the Layout menu; Browse/List View; Show All. On a task, click Choose project to prepare the context. The chooser shows only projects of that contact. Apply on a project row stores its PrimaryKey in this task’s ProjectID and returns to the list. Clear project removes only the link; Cancel returns without assignment. Display fields are view-only. IDs distinguish equal project names; do not edit them manually.

Do not enter Choose Task Project directly from the Layout menu to assign. Do not change the task or window while choosing. If context changes, Cancel and start again. A failed commit can leave pending edits. Correct and commit them or use Records > Revert Record; Cancel refuses pending edits rather than saving them silently.

Practice: Rivera task -> Website refresh, Morgan task -> Morgan’s separate Website refresh. Verify current contact and related project, Cancel, Clear, duplicate names, no-project contact, unchanged counts/other task fields, and close/reopen persistence. The lesson includes the full owner checklist. Native appearance/interactions are owner-tested.
